Townhouses For Sale in Uplands, Vaughan
Uplands is the Vaughan side of Thornhill, west of Yonge Street and south of Highway 7, built up mostly after the 1960s around its golf and ski hill. Townhouses are uncommon and usually in condo projects close to Yonge, and the planned Yonge North subway extension is the biggest change coming to this corner of the city.

Yonge Street is about to change
Uplands may see more change from new transit than any other Vaughan neighbourhood. Line 1's Yonge branch is being extended north from Finch, with stations planned at Steeles, Clark Avenue and Bridge, a surface station near Highway 7 and the 407 rail corridor that's planned as a transit hub. Yonge Street is the boundary between Vaughan and Markham, so the Vaughan side of Thornhill, including Uplands, will be within reach of those stations.
The tunnelling contract was awarded in August 2025, and the full project is expected to take about a decade. For townhouse buyers, that's a long-term story, not something to count on next year. But it explains why developers are proposing more density along Yonge, including condo projects with townhouse units at their base.
Mostly detached, with towns near Yonge
Uplands was mainly farmland until Yonge Street was extended and the area was built up from the 1960s on. The housing is mostly bungalows and two-storey detached homes, many with mid-century lines. There aren't many apartments or condos, and townhouses are a small share of what's for sale.
When townhouses do come up, they're usually in condo developments on or near Yonge Street. Some are stacked or tower-attached units within larger mid-rise projects. That means monthly fees, shared parking garages and a condo board, rather than a freehold row with a driveway.
Because supply is thin, buyers who want Uplands specifically often wait for the right unit or widen their search to nearby parts of Thornhill on either side of Yonge.
Uplands or the Markham side of Thornhill
Many buyers searching for an Uplands townhouse also look across Yonge Street at the Markham side of Thornhill. The two halves share a history, since Thornhill was a village split between Vaughan and Markham, and they will share the new subway stations on Yonge.
The practical differences are municipal. Property taxes, garbage collection and community centres are run by different cities, and the school boards are the same York Region boards on both sides. Townhouse supply on either side of Yonge is limited, so widening the search across the street is often the fastest way to find the right unit.
If you're set on the Vaughan side, watch for new condo projects along Yonge, which are where most new townhouse units in Uplands will appear.
Ski hill in winter, nine holes in summer
Uplands is named for its biggest landmark. The Uplands Golf and Ski Centre runs a nine-hole course in warmer months and a beginner ski hill in winter. Next door, the private Thornhill Club has golf, curling and tennis.
Smaller parks include Newport Square Park, with tennis and basketball courts and a playground, and Rosedale North Park, with tennis courts and a baseball diamond. Shops and restaurants are concentrated along Yonge Street on the neighbourhood's east side.
Until the subway arrives
For now, Uplands commuters take a bus down Yonge to Finch station and Line 1, or drive. Highway 7 runs along the north side, with access to the 407 and the 404. The Viva rapidway on Highway 7 connects west to the VMC subway and east to Richmond Hill Centre.
When you compare townhouses here, note where each one sits relative to the planned Clark Avenue and Bridge stations. That will matter more over time than it does today.
What buyers ask about Uplands
Will the Yonge North subway have a station near Uplands?
Stations are planned at Steeles, Clark Avenue and Bridge, near Highway 7 and the 407. Yonge Street is the eastern edge of Uplands, so these stations will be within reach once the line opens, which is expected to take about a decade from the 2025 tunnelling contract.
Why are there so few townhouses in Uplands?
The neighbourhood was built mostly as bungalows and detached homes from the 1960s on. Townhouses are limited to condo developments, mostly along Yonge Street.
Are Uplands townhouses freehold?
Most townhouses here are part of condo developments, so they come with a monthly fee and shared ownership. Confirm the tenure on each listing.
