Steeles to 14th: the residential half

Middlefield divides fairly cleanly. South of 14th Avenue are the residential streets, mostly detached homes built from the 1980s through the 2000s, many of them with four or more bedrooms. North of 14th is largely industrial land and open fields toward the 407.

Townhouses are a smaller share of the housing. They tend to be freehold rows built alongside the detached homes, plus some condominium complexes. Their main appeal is space at a lower entry point than a detached house in the same school catchment, close to the Toronto border.

Parks are spread through the streets, including James Edwards Park, Middlefield Corners, Elson Park, Featherstone Park, Peace Park, and Markham Park at Markham Road and Steeles.

Commuting across the Toronto line

Middlefield's southern edge at Steeles is the Toronto border, so TTC buses from Scarborough serve the southern streets. That's useful for anyone commuting to Scarborough or connecting to the TTC network.

For trains, the Stouffville GO line runs to the west, with Milliken station near Steeles and other stations further north in Markham. Many residents drive to a station rather than walk.

By car, Highway 407 runs along the north, and the 404 and 401 are a longer but direct drive west and south. Test the commute at peak hours, since Steeles and 14th Avenue can be slow.

Because Middlefield's townhouses range from the 1980s onward, the checks depend on the unit's age.

Middlefield is also a natural next step for families already in Scarborough who want York Region schools and a bit more space while staying close to family and work south of Steeles.
