Streetsville townhouse guide

A village with its own main street

Surveyor and mill builder Timothy Street founded the village on the west bank of the Credit River. It became a village in 1858 and a town in 1962, and it was folded into Mississauga in 1974. Queen Street, the historic main street, still has independent shops and restaurants, and the Bread and Honey Festival has been held at Streetsville Memorial Park on the first weekend of June since 1973.

Postwar subdivisions such as Vista Heights and Riverview came in the 1950s, and townhouse complexes followed in later decades, often within walking distance of the village core.

Small complexes, older stock and the river

Townhouses in Streetsville tend to be in smaller complexes than the large planned developments in Erin Mills or Meadowvale. That can mean a smaller reserve fund base for the same costs, so read the reserve fund study carefully.

The Credit River runs through the area. If a complex backs onto the valley or a creek, ask whether it sits within a Credit Valley Conservation regulated area, which can affect future additions or changes to the lot.

Smaller complexes also mean a smaller board, and decisions can depend heavily on a few active owners. Read recent meeting minutes if they are available, and look at how the corporation has handled past major repairs.

Freehold towns near the village core are less common than condos, and they often sell quickly when they appear. Infill projects on the edges of the old village tend to be newer and more expensive per square foot than the older complexes.

Streetsville GO and the Milton line

Streetsville GO on the Milton line gives the area direct rush-hour trains to Union. Highway 401 and the 403 are both a short drive away. Erin Mills Town Centre and Heartland Town Centre are the nearest large shopping destinations.

The Milton line runs mainly in weekday peak periods, so shift workers and weekend commuters usually rely on buses or driving. Mississauga Road and Britannia Road connect to the 401 and 407, and the drive to Meadowvale's business parks is short.

Heritage streets and what they mean for nearby complexes

The older village area around Queen Street has a strong heritage character, and the city takes that into account when reviewing changes and new development. For townhouse buyers, that usually means fewer large new projects in the immediate core, more modest infill and a main street that stays recognisably small-scale.

If you are looking at a complex close to the core, check whether any heritage designations or planning studies affect nearby properties. It will not usually change what you can do inside your unit, but it can shape what gets built next door.

Who chooses Streetsville

Buyers who want a walkable main street and a GO station without moving into a condo tower often land here. Downsizers like the village feel and the shorter distance to shops; commuters like the rail connection. Supply is limited, so it is worth watching listings over time.

Streetsville also suits buyers who want a quieter alternative to the Hurontario corridor while staying close to the 401. The trade-off is that the village core has limited parking during festivals and busy weekends, and older complexes may not have modern amenities.

What buyers ask about Streetsville

Does Streetsville have a GO station?

Yes. Streetsville GO is on the Milton line, with weekday rush-hour service to Union Station.

Are Streetsville townhouses close to the village core?

Many complexes are within walking distance of Queen Street's shops and restaurants, though some are on the newer edges of the area.

What should I check if a Streetsville town backs onto the Credit River?

Ask whether the property is within a Credit Valley Conservation regulated area, which can limit changes to the lot.
