Townhouses For Sale in Keelesdale-Eglinton West, York
Keelesdale-Eglinton West is the southern half of old Silverthorn, south of Eglinton between the Black Creek corridor and the Barrie rail line. It's a hilly area of modest detached houses with winding one-way streets, so townhouses are uncommon, and the new Keelesdale station has changed how people see it.

Keelesdale station and a commute that finally works
Keelesdale station, at Keele Street and Eglinton, puts Line 5 at the neighbourhood's northern edge. Caledonia station is a short walk east, and the Mount Dennis hub, with Kitchener line GO trains, is one stop west.
Before 2026, the commute from here meant a bus to the subway, often with a long ride across Eglinton or down Keele. Now Line 5 connects to Line 1 at Cedarvale, and the GO connection at Mount Dennis links to Union and the west. For a townhouse owner, that turns a car-dependent location into one that can work without a car.
The York Civic Centre on Eglinton, once the heart of the City of York's government, still sits along this stretch. Eglinton itself was the old city's main commercial street.
Hills, one-way streets and working-class houses
Silverthorn takes its name from a family who settled in the area in the 1780s, and it began as a small postal village serving the farms of York Township. South of Eglinton it still has a working-class character, with modest detached houses on small lots, most owner-occupied.
The terrain is steep, and many streets are one-way and winding, which keeps through traffic low. That makes for quiet streets but tricky driveways, and some lots sit well above or below the road.
Townhouses here are mostly small infill projects. When they come up, they're often freehold units on a former single lot, or a short row on a corner.
West of the neighbourhood, the Black Creek corridor and Black Creek Drive form a hard edge. The road carries heavy traffic toward the 401, which is handy for drivers but noisy for homes that back onto it. The playing fields of Eglinton Flats are a short trip further west.
What the slope means for an infill townhouse
- Garages that sit below street level need a reliable drain at the bottom of the driveway. Ask whether it's ever backed up.
- Lots cut into a hill may have retaining walls shared with neighbours. Find out who owns and maintains them.
- Basements on the downhill side may have walk-outs, which can add light and space but also water entry points.
- Snow and ice on steep driveways are a daily winter issue. Check whether the driveway has heating or a gentle enough grade.
A good home inspector who knows hilly lots will check grading around the foundation, downspout discharge and whether the neighbour's yard drains toward yours. Those details matter more here than on flat suburban streets.
Who buys here, and what's changing nearby
Buyers who want a townhouse with good transit but can't stretch to the old city often look here. First-time buyers often find prices here more approachable than along the eastern stretch of Line 5. Investors are drawn by station proximity, though stock is limited.
The area around Mount Dennis, just west, is expected to see more development as the transit hub matures. Changes there could spread to Keelesdale over time, bringing more townhouse and mid-rise projects along Eglinton.
If you're buying with that in mind, watch development applications on nearby blocks. New buildings can add services and value, but they also mean years of construction and more traffic.
